Mary Frantz, Sep 30, 2012, 12:33AM UTCDr. Komaroff, I believe you wrote an article on low thyroid that was printed in the Fresno Bee today, 9/19/12. I would like to have a reprint of that article, but I absent-mindedly threw away today's paper. Could you send me a reprint of that article? My e-mail is . Thank you! Mary Frantz

William McNeil, Aug 21, 2012, 4:03PM UTCDear Dr. Anthony Komaroff,
An article you authored was sent to me entitled “Plague Buildup Also Can Affect Intestines”. I have been suffering from stomach and intestinal issues since November, 2011 and it is getting progressively worse. I currently see a gastrointestinal specialist (Tomas Judge 856-881-1940); several tests have been performed including a MRA Abdomen Aorta (Renal Arteries) test. Many of my symptoms correlate to the information in the article and I think something has been overlooked in my case.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestion in helping to isolate the problem.
Summary of symptoms:
It starts out with a minor ache in the middle of my stomach (just below the ribcage and below the breast bone) and occurs mostly after eating. The stomach starts to get tender and can stay that way or get worse. If it gets worse, my stomach starts aching and the muscles start to get rigid, and I have to get off my feet to help relieve it. The stomach muscles/spasm or rigidness can be relieved somewhat with taking one or two .125 mg Hyoscyamine pill but it does not go away. I have to baby my stomach eating every 4 hours and watched the food type and quantity intake.
I am now limited on what I can do outside. If I do any lifting, for example, I was carrying a yard sprayer with 2 gallons of liquid that pulled on my stomach and it really made the stomach problem worse. The discomfort continues for several days before diminishing.
Level of immobility: I cannot do work in the yard without knowing if it will add to the problem. I cannot travel, because I may have to lift luggage and may not be able to lie down.
Level of discomfort: When my stomach is sore the level can be a 7 or 8 during parts of the day.

Patricia Detterich, Jul 7, 2012, 4:26PM UTCFor 22 years I have taken bone building medication. For about 18 years I took Fosamax, then I switched to Alendronate. I am a petite, 5foot1inch, red-head. When I started taking Fosamax, I weighed about 105 lbs. Now, I weigh 116 lbs. I have never had any side affects and I have never had a broken bone. According to my bone density tests, I am still pre-osteoporosis. In June I turned 70. In the morning I wake up a little stiff but when I get moving I'm fine. Because I am right handed, I notice the muscle (tendons, ligaments) in my right shoulder gets sore, if I lift anything heavy. Since I have been taking bone meds for 22 years, please let me know if you think I should keep taking Alendronate or stop for awhile. I will be talking to my own doctor soon, regarding this matter.

Raven W., Sep 19, 2010, 8:21PM UTCJust saw your slide presentation on CFS and viral infections. In my case it was Mycoplasma Pneumoniae and Chlamydia Pnuemoniae infections. Five years after a multiple antibiotic protocol, I am fatigue free and full of energy. I did find out I have impaired immune function (low NK cell activity and low globulin) I also have HHV6 but levels have dropped significantly since I began taking monolaurin. There is hope for people with CFS if you get the right testing and find someone who knows how to treat it the infections. Patients put together this non-profit web site:

Linda Pappas, Apr 16, 2010, 12:02PM UTCMy 29 year old daughter and I will be at your 4/24 lecture. She had roseola as an infant, mono at age 16, developed temporal lobe seizures at age 24 and began having body aches, pains, headaches, and other signs of CFS that was diagnosed as Fibromyalgia. She has has a roller-coaster ride of symptoms and treatments.
Will you be discussing HHV-6 at your lecture? She seems to fit the pattern of this infection, but the infectious disease doc and (wonderful) neurosurgeon she sees do not think this infection is a possibility and is only seen in patients who are severely immuno compromised. Is there any definitive test she can take to see if she has HHV-6? We are looking forward to your lecture, Linda Pappas -

sarah foster, Jan 5, 2009, 11:49AM UTCDear Dr. Komaroff,
I enjoyed your article in Newsweek a few weeks ago. I work for a company that sells equipment to researchers in stem cells called Biospherix. I was wondering if you do any independent research in addition to your hospital and writing duties?
Sincerely, Sarah Foster

Richard Hopp, Dec 3, 2008, 6:34PM UTCDear Dr. Komaroff:
Can you please email a list of U.S. locations of 320-slice CT scanners in clinical use for coronary angiography. If you are unable to provide this information, I would appreciate your redirecting my inquiry to a colleague who might be able to help me.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
